Guide to Care for Diamond Studs

We all know and believe that diamonds are forever. And this adage is true to a great extent because diamonds are very hard making them almost indestructible. Due to their hard nature they are extremely resistant to scratches. However, this does not mean that diamonds do not need any care. Diamonds in whatever jewelry they are, be it necklaces, rings, bracelets, bangles, ear rings or studs for the ear need to be taken care of so that they retain their look and luster for years to come.

Irrespective of the fact whether the diamond studs you possess were purchased by you or were handed down as a family legacy, it is imperative that you take good care of them. The most important while taking care of them is cleaning them. They need to be cleaned often to retain their sparkle and clarity. Let us see what needs to be done to keep them looking as new as ever.

Firstly, always wear your diamond ear rings or studs after you are done making up your face and hair. This way you will prevent different chemical particles from collecting on the ear pieces. If you are brushing on compact or loose powder or blush-on or spraying some mousse or hair spray on your hair, they are bound to sit on diamonds, diminishing their luster.

Secondly avoid touching the diamond as much as you can. The natural oil present in your hands will stick to the diamonds which will start looking dull. So while handling diamond jewelry try to touch the metal portions rather than the diamonds.

Thirdly, it is a great idea to get your diamond jewelry inspected regularly by a reputed jeweler. They will check the diamonds for scratches and also make sure that their setting on the stud has not come loose. In case of detection of any damage, you can get it repaired then and there.

The last but not the least is cleaning the studs. You can use a mild detergent and a simple tooth brush to clean it and remove traces of dirt, grime and grease. However, this needs to be done gently which otherwise may loosen the setting. You can also opt for professional cleaning once a year if you are not confident of doing it on your own. Storage of diamonds also plays are crucial role in their maintenance. They should ideally be stored in soft cloth bags or in a box or compartment that is not shared with any other piece of jewelry.
